Personal finance can be a touchy subject for many people, most prefer to keep the subjects to themselves, which makes it all that much harder to recognize when things have gotten beyond control.
There is nothing wrong with asking for assistance or looking to an outsider for help with budgeting. Staying within a budget is the biggest problem that families face when it comes to finances. The biggest advantage you can give yourself is an outline of expenditures. Taking the time to lay out all of your expenses, bills, food, car, home, cable, going out, anything that you spend money on and comparing that total with the household income can give you a precise idea of exactly how much positive cash flow you have.
Positive cash flow is what remains once all debts have been covered. As long as your miscellaneous spending stays below your pre determined positive cash then your head will remain above water. Saving every dollar that is considered extra is the best way to combat future unforeseen problems, but that is often easier said than done. Keeping your monetary balance on the plus side is very difficult in an economy like ours, having a budget will give you the knowledge necessary, but a budget alone will not solve your problems, you must live within your means and stick to your budget.
