Our friends over at Best Web Design have recently posted a new article outlining three helpful tips to keep in mind whenever someone is creating a website.
It is really useful knowing the things that will make a user want to stay on a website. For if a website is poorly designed, with the user’s interests not in mind, then it is unlikely that that website will succeed. There are hundreds of thousands of new websites launched every single year, and the vast majority of them do not last long. These tips should help the website’s you make, endure.
So without any further adieu, I heartily recommend you take a read of this Web Design Tips article.
Maybe you have made a few websites or you’re just starting out, and you are wondering what things constitute a good web design. You might be asking: What is the difference between an okay website and a good website in terms of its design? I will explain in this article three tips that are paramount if you want a good web design.
These three tips are agreed upon as being essential by the consensus of web designers.
One of the primary this to keep in mind while designing your website is that it should be user-friendly. This means that in order for people to use your site and navigate to the information they are seeking, there should not be an extensive learning-curve. If someone does not understand how to use your website, you can almost be sure that they will navigate off your website as fast as they came. What this means in a practical sense is that your navigational menu should be ordered and in a place that a person would expect. That means horizontally along the top, or vertically down on the left or right sides. It is no good to have the links on your website all around the page in an unordered fashion, because it will confuse the user.
Good Use of Colour
It is no good to have a brilliant web design if the text on your site is unreadable by the user. The reason you want the user to visit your site is the text on the page, so make sure the background colour is very contrasting to the text colour. Black text on a white background is the easiest to read, and so if you want a good web design, try and aim for that. But this does not mean having just a black and white page. That would be perceived as being very boring, so ensure that you have colour surrounding the main content area. This website is a prime example of how this can be done.
Ensure Fast Loading Times
This relates to website design because this is something that should always be kept in mind. For a brilliant flashy site is useless if it takes a long time to load, because Internet users are not very patient. If a website takes more than 5 seconds to load, generally most people will naviagate away from the site.So therefore, when you are designing your site, ensure that you don’t have massively large images that take forever to load. This relates to using Flash as well, try and avoid it, as Flash usually takes quite a long time to load.
If you keep this three things in mind when designing your website, then you are more likely to make a site that has good web design. And as they say, practice makes perfect. So if at first your site does not look very good, try doing it again. Good luck.
